The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy: Irena Sendlerowa

February 27, 2009

I get a lot of spam. No, I didn’t think I was the only one but I get a lot of spam even though I have tons of filters and security. I get chain letters and requests to help smuggle money out of various third world countries. I have hit the lotto in fourteen nations on three continents which has to be beyond all odds. I get a lot of spam from my family members and I have a lot of family. Yesterday I got six e mails from my sister Rae and I thought of just hitting the delete button but I for some reason I opened the one titled “ The Irena Sendler Story”.

Blowhard

I read the story and because I am a born skeptic. I thought, “Yeah right, how is it I have never heard of this person before?” So I did some research and I would like to pass along this story to all of my readers. In times like these I believe it is important to know that people have risked more and endured longer than we can imagine. This is a story of courage and nerve that few of us have. It is also a story of someone who stood up for what was right when most were busy following a charismatic leader who promised to lead a desperate nation out of economic troubles. I wish a few Republicans in Washington would do the same.

Irena Sendler was a young Polish woman who worked in Warsaw before World War II. As a young student she was dismissed from university because she refused to respect the segregation of Jewish students even though she was a Catholic.

When the Nazis took Poland she used her connection with the Welfare Department to move in and out of the Ghetto. She and other members of the Polish resistance group Zegota saved the lives of over 2500 children and many more adults.

In 1943 she was captured by the Gestapo and tortured. She was beaten and had her arms and legs broken.  When the story came to light she said her only regret was that most of those who had helped her were no longer around to share in her acclaim.

If you would like to read the entire story of this remarkable person here is a link to the student project “Life in a Jar” that has helped bring Ms. Sendler’s story into wider public awareness.

I hope you are inspired by this story as I was. When you get to the part where she is nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 keep in mind the Nobel Committee found Al Gore more worthy of its attention.

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy: I’m Over Stimulated

February 27, 2009

Ahhh you have to admire the brilliance if not the bull. Submit your first budget at 1.4 trillion in the red and if you can just get the over spending down to 600 billion in the red you go to the morons who worship you and claim to have cut deficit spending in half.

Perhaps the only thing that gets in my craw more is when all the supposed fiscal conservatives in D.C. back Bush’s $750 billion bailout and then act so offended when Obama does what he promised and starts the redistribution.

Take heart my friemds. If the government took all the money in the country and cut it into 280 million equal shares tomorrow, within six months millons would be broke again and millions would be wealthy.  The great thing about being  free to achieve is that you can always do it.

The pendulum has swung to the left but  it will swing back! Out there waiting is the next Reagan and he or she will emerge. It may be Palin, Jindal or someone who isn’t yet on the radar.

Today I am recommending a read from my friend Tim Slagel

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy: Breaking Down Barack

February 26, 2009

Ever since Bill Clinton gave us the greatest insight into the modern political mind with the words, “it depends on what the meaning of “is” is.” it has become important for the intelligent citizen to closely parse all political speech. I didn’t listen to President Obama’s speech to congress live because I was busy watching a “Maude” marathon on some obscure cable network. I recorded the speech so I could fast forward through all of the obligatory applause breaks and got his hour and ten minute speech down to forty five minutes. I pulled out a few quotes from the speech so I could break them down and share their deeper meaning. Mr. Obama’s words will be in bold and my explanation will follow. I may have missed your favorite quote, or your take on these may be a little different than mine so feel free to add it when you comment.

Let the socialism begin!

Let the socialism begin!

“Nor did all of our problems begin when the housing market collapsed or the stock market sank. We have known for decades that our survival depends on finding new sources of energy.”

So your theory, Mr. President, is that if we would have given out a wind turbine or a solar panel with every bad loan we would be ok today?

“And though all these challenges went unsolved, we still managed to spend more money and pile up more debt, both as individuals and through our government, than ever before”

So the new plan is to pile up another trillion or two in debt? That’s our bold new strategy?

.“People bought homes they knew they couldn’t afford from banks and lenders who pushed those bad loans anyway.”

Encouraged, some may say forced, to do so by a liberal congress which tried to enact yet another piece of social engineering with no regard to the unforeseen consequences.

“Not because I believe in bigger government — I don’t.”

… and to prove this, for the rest of this speech all I will talk about is new government programs with big budgets and more bureaucrats.

“Because of this plan, 95 percent of working households in America will receive a tax cut — a tax cut that you will see in your paychecks beginning on April 1st.

Enjoy your eight dollars a week! Have a pound of hard salami on me!

“And that’s why I’ve asked Vice President Biden to lead a tough, unprecedented oversight effort — because nobody messes with Joe.”

Except that scam artist Stanford who took him and his family for 22 million.

“…this time, CEOs won’t be able to use taxpayer money to pad their paychecks, or buy fancy drapes, or disappear on a private jet. Those days are over.”

In the private sector! From now on those privileges are reserved to those in government service

“But while the cost of action will be great, I can assure you that the cost of inaction will be far greater.”

How do we know? Unfortunately for the taxpayers the government is always in action.

“But to truly transform our economy, to protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change…”

Coldest winter in 30 years and thickest polar ice since 1979, are you sure about that whole global warming thing?

“… we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy. So I ask this Congress to send me legislation that places a market-based cap on carbon pollution and drives the production of more renewable energy in America. That’s what we need.”

More taxes on the wealthy! More government regulation! Happy days are here again comrades! But I don’t believe in bigger government!

. We’ve also made the largest investment in basic research funding in American history — an investment that will spur not only new discoveries in energy, but breakthroughs in medicine and science and technology.”

More taxes! More Bureaucrats! But I don’t believe in bigger government

“This budget builds on these reforms. It includes a historic commitment to comprehensive health care reform — a down payment on the principle that we must have quality, affordable health care for every American.”

More taxes! More Government in your life! But I don’t believe in bigger government.

Now, there will be many different opinions and ideas about how to achieve reform, and that’s why I’m bringing together businesses and workers, doctors and health care providers, Democrats and Republicans to begin work on this issue next week.

…and the genii says, “Let me see that map of the Middle East again!”

“Now, I’m proud that we passed a recovery plan free of earmarks…”

Of course there is still plenty of pork and pet projects we just aren’t calling them earmarks. What the meaning of “is” is, Excellent! Hehehehe!

“And yesterday, I held a fiscal summit where I pledged to cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term in office.

If you spend $800 billion you don’t have in the first three weeks of your administration and cut that down to just $400 billion in four years haven’t you cut the deficit by 50%?

“And that is why I can stand here tonight and say without exception or equivocation that the United States of America does not torture.”

Really? Then why is this speech so long?

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy : Miley Cyrus, My Hero

February 20, 2009

These are some words I never thought I’d say but I hope Miley Cyrus loses the four billion dollar lawsuit that has been filed against her. In case you’re not up on this story Ms. Cyrus, who is a 16 year old, which I believe makes her prone to do silly and at times even stupid things, was photographed making silly faces with a group of friends at the mall or some such place were young multimillionaires hang out.

Miley Cyrus caught in "mouse-ist" photo making fun of Mickey and Minnie

Miley Cyrus caught in "mouse-ist" photo making fun of Mickey and Minnie

In the photo Ms. Cyrus and several of her friends are sitting with another boy who appears to be of Asian heritage. The kids seem to be trying to look like their Asian friend. I am assuming he is a friend and not just some random guy they crowded around for the picture.

When this picture made the rounds it was seen by one Ms. Lucie J. Kim and her life began to spin out of control. The emotional distress was unbearable! She lost all of her self-esteem and any pride she had previously held in her racial heritage. So apparently did every person in the United States of “Asian-Pacific Islander” descent even those who didn’t see the photo! I “goggled” Ms. Kim to find out something about her and she is, if I may quote that great second lever philosopher Gomer Pyle, surprise, surprise, surprise, a lawyer!

If you read me regularly you know that I am a BFH (big freaking hillbilly) who lives out in flyover country. I don’t want to seem racist or uncouth but since I have been challenged by Attorney General Holder to have more courage in racial relations I need some answers. I have to admit that am not really up on my Asian subcultures but there must be some way Ms. Kim can tell from the photo that the boy in the picture is an “Asian-Pacific Islander” and not say, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, or any of the other Asian nationalities. I am taking the term Asian-Pacific Islander to mean someone of any Asian descent that grew up on an island in the Pacific Ocean. However it has occurred to me that “Asian-Pacific Islander” might be a broad umbrella minority group which includes all Asian nationalities and all Pacific Islanders. If so what about Junior Seau and Troy Polamalu do they get a cut of the settlement? What about Russians who were born in the Asian part of Russia, have they suffered?

She claims a lot of things here so let’s look at her lawsuit objectively. First, she says that she represents one million “Asian-Pacific Islanders” who live in Los Angeles County. Where does she draw that authority from and why does that authority stop at the county line? What about the many Asian Pacific Islanders who live in Orange County? Aren’t their feelings also hurt? Who will speak for them? What about Asians who live in Asia? They may have seen the picture on the internet and may have been traumatized too, or are they a tougher breed than those Asians who live here?

How did she arrive at the figure $4000 for every claimed member of the class action? Is that the amount she has spent on therapy? How can she prove her mental problems are due to seeing Ms. Cyrus and not just long repressed responses from watching Peter Lorre play Mr. Moto or Roland Winters and Sidney Toler play Charlie Chan? How did she arrive at the number one million? Do you have to be one hundred percent “Asian-Pacific Islander” to be represented?

I need answers because if Ms. Kim prevails I will be filing a bunch of lawsuits against Dave Chappelle, Eddie Griffin, Jeff Foxworthy, the writers and producers of the Beverly Hillbillies, The Dukes of Hazard and a number of other deep pockets in Hollywood who have a long history of belittling my people.

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy: California or Bust!

February 19, 2009

With apologies to John Lennon, everybody in California sing along,

Imagine there is no Government,

It’s easy if you try, Just essential services

No bureaucratic lies

Imagine all the people keeping more of their dough,

You may say I’m a dreamer…

Unfortunately for the people of the former Golden State the budget just passed. I love how absolutely apoplectic lawmakers get when they run out of money. I think their primal fear is that if the government does shut down that people will realize how easily the vast majority of citizens can function without big brother. The really crazy thing is that when the government shuts down the payroll doesn’t. The State of California passed a budget and state worker avoided being “laid off”. Being laid off for a government employee isn’t the same as when you get laid off in the real world. When governments send people home because they are broke, when the workers return they get back pay. If I were a state employee in California I would have been praying for an impasse. In the real world we call that a paid vacation.

California RHINO Governor Schwarzenegger has been like a Star Wars junkie camping out to be first in line for a handout from the feds. I feel that if GM and Chrysler have to submit a plan in order to get my money then states that take federal bailouts should do the same. The problem with the California deficit is that there is no plan other than to raise taxes in a state that has some of the highest taxes in the country. If you make over $44,815 your state income tax rate is 9.3 percent, add into that state and local sales taxes that equals almost 10 percent, 63 cents a gallon gas tax, a federal tax rate of 25%, about 9% for social security and Medicare (sixteen percent if you are self employed) and you aren’t even the majority partner in your income anymore. That’s before we even think about property taxes, local income taxes, water district “fees”, sanitation “fees”, license and registration “fees”, tolls and god knows what other hidden taxes and fees you pay.

Illegal aliens eat up about 10 billion a year of the California budget and while that isn’t the whole problem it would be a start. The California government has been trending towards socialism for twenty years now so in a way what is happening there is a preview of our national problem. So here is my suggestion, since we don’t seem to have the political will to make government smaller let’s make it shorter! All government employees in California now get Fridays off! Close down the state government one day a week and adjust the payroll. If the workers don’t like it they can always go into the private sector and get a real job.

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy: Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman, a Comic Perspective

February 17, 2009

Out here in the sticks, despite the fabulous inventions technology has brought us, news travels slowly. I like Letterman but don’t often watch the show because I’m usually either writing or in bed at 11:30 P.M. Besides I am a little put off by Dave lately because his political bias has been showing through on the show. I am not, however, one of those folks who won’t watch anyone I don’t agree with politically. I don’t want my entertainment choices to be limited to Gary Sinise, Tom Selleck, Toby Keith and Lee Greenwood but sometimes I just can’t take the bleed through.

More And than Diddy

More Andy than Diddy

So I was a little behind the curve on the whole Joaquin Phoenix being weird on Letterman last Wednesday night (Feburary11, 2009). I had to watch an edited version of the interview on The Huffington Post. Settle down, my conservative friends, yes I just mentioned the dreaded Huff  and not only do I read items there I used to write for their 23/6 political site. Someone has to keep an eye on them.

I also went and found clips of Mr. Phoenix “rapping” and announcing his retirement from acting. It seems to me that Joaquin isn’t moving into hip-hop as much as he is moving into comedy and channeling the spirit of Andy Kaufman. For some of you younger folks, Andy was a comedian who took his act off stage and into his life 24/7 with his Tony Clifton character and later with his foray into professional wrestling. Andy never broke character either as Tony or when he was doing his wrestling thing. The joke was never over, that was part of the beauty of the comedy, it was all set up and no punchline. The really odd thing is that David Letterman was at the heart of both of these pieces of great performance art.

As I watched the Joaquin interview he never got tired of or angry with Dave’s insults or belittling attitude.  Odd, don’t you think that a guy who is has a reputation for being a little touchy about his work never gets angry that neither Dave, nor the audience is taking him seriously. Even when Paul Schaffer jumps in with a laugh it all seems too planned.  While I respect David Letterman as a comic some of the lines he gets off in the alleged interview seem a little rehearsed. So I say let Joaquin have his fun as he spoofs the hip-hop world and the rest of us with his career change but keep in mind that wrestler Jerry Lawler dropped Andy Kaufman on his head. Or was that just part of the joke?

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy: Where Are Their Friends?

February 14, 2009

I have just lost one of my best friends to cancer. He was a great guy and a great friend. One of the things that made him a great friend was I could count on him to tell me the truth even when I didn’t want to hear it. He would tell you straight up that the girl you were dating wasn’t all that great for you or that your golf swing had more flaw than swing in it. He was sort of like a hillbilly Socrates in that he usually sent you the cold hard facts by asking you a question. There is an old saying that the truth without compassion is brutality and Bill usually had compassion but when I was being stubborn he could be a brute. When I was being a little big for my britches or getting ready to have a “Hey watch this!” moment he let you know it. I was watching the television last weekend I had three occasions to ask myself, “Where are their friends?”

The first was while I was watching a guy I really like, Governor Mike Huckabee on Fox News. After watching Gov. Huckabee do a lot of guest spots on its other shows, Fox decided to give the Governor his own talk show. Being a great guest and an outstanding leader doesn’t mean you are automatically a great host. I watched the show the first time it was on and I cringed but figured he was a good speaker and was used to talking to folks after being a pastor so he would grow into the role. After this weekend with the three Miss’ America and Rosie Perez someone should speak to the Governor. Does he know anybody that will tell him that he makes a good talking head but if he ever wants to be taken seriously again for any major political office he should stop doing his talk show?  Two of the Miss Americas singing leaving on a jet plane was ironic in that that is exactly what Fox should do with this show, send it somewhere on vacation. Does Fox not have a budget for writers? If the monologue jokes were any lamer they would have to come out in a wheelchair. Please, Governor Huckabee, for the sake of all conservatives everywhere stop being a third rate Jimmy Kimmel and start putting your organization together for 2012.

Then we had sweet lovable Helen Thomas making a fool of herself in front of yet another president. My great Uncle Art  is 93 and the State of Pennsylvania and his step daughter recently stepped in and took his drivers license after he sideswiped three cars on his way to church. Can’t someone who loves poor Helen do the same with her press pass?  Isn’t there a nice group of Red Hat ladies she could go to Vegas with?  You’d think the rest of the liberal “journalists” might have had a word with her a few months ago when she started spewing all her “what else should a journalist be except a liberal” stuff.  But no, Helen Thomas is the AIG of White House reporters she is too big to fail!

Finally, where are the friends of Brett Favre? Why doesn’t his wife or his best hunting buddy take his internet connection away from him at this time of year? This is the third straight year he has retired from football which I believe moves him ahead of George Blanda on the all-time list. Why didn’t he just let the Jets know he wasn’t coming back and head down to the bayou for some alone time?

I was just rereading this and thought it might be too snarky, I wish my buddy Bill was here to set me straight. Cue the James Taylor and fade to black.
